Dear Editor:
After almost three years of being away from Pembroke College because of COVID restrictions, it
was thrilling to be welcomed back for Pembroke’s Annual Alumni Weekend (September 15-16, 2022!
This year it was particularly meaningful to my husband, Jim, and I since we longed to meet the new Master, Sir
Ernest Ryder, face to face! Prior to our formal Saturday evening dinner, there was a beautiful
Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving for her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in the Damon Wells
Chapel including remembrance and thanksgiving extended to all benefactors and to our most
recently departed Damon Wells, Stephen Gosztony, Harold Kramer and Metropolitan Kallistos
Ware. Following the drinks reception and prior to dinner in the Hall, our Master stirred our
minds and hearts with his vision for the future of Pembroke and its theme of “resilience and
sustainability, ergo transformation for the next 400 years”! He also announced that with the
400th Anniversary celebration approaching in July 2024, every day leading up to it will be filled
with meaningful events and celebrations throughout the world for our 9,000 plus Pembrokian
alumni leading the way!
