NAVY SHIP TO BE NAMED FOR Dick Lugar ‘54 –Another honor for the late U.S. Senator

The U.S. Navy has announced that a new state-or-of-the-art destroyer will be named after former US Senator and Pembroke College Foundation Chairman,  Dick Lugar ’54.

Dick served as an officer in the Navy from 1957 to 1960.  How appropriate that the destroyer, to be built at Maine’s Bath Iron Works, is part of the Arleigh Burke class of warships.  Dick was an intelligence briefer to Adm. Arleigh Burke, then-Chief of US Naval Operations.
