Houston was recently graced with the presence and creative energy of two world-famous Pembrokians – New York-based composer Tarik O’Regan, and San Francisco-based artist Jeremy Sutton.
Tarik’s new opera, The Phoenix had its world premiere at Houston’s Wortham Center on April 26. The Phoenix, which was composed by Tarik in collaboration with Director/librettist John Caird and staged by Houston Grand Opera, received rave reviews and standing ovations. “The Phoenix is as sprawling and breathless as its title suggests,” reported The Houston Chronicle. Tarik’s score is “wonderfully orchestrated” praised The Houston Press.
The ebullient Jeremy Sutton, digital art pioneer, author, and teacher, showcased his brilliant talent for portraiture at the Sugar Land International Arts Festival, performing his iPad painting on the Festival’s main stage.
Terry Slesinski-Wykowski ’82 and her husband, Jim, hosted welcoming dinner parties for Tarik, Jeremy and his partner, Peggy Gyulai, a renowned artist in her own right, and fellow Oxonians at their home in Houston during the visits.
