Pete Buttigieg ‘06 is not the only Pembrokian seeking high elective office. Arkansas Lt. Governor Tim Griffin ’90 announced on August 5th that he is running for the Republican nomination for governor.  The election will be held in 2022

Tim was elected as Arkansas’ 20th Lt. Governor in 2014, and was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2018.

Before becoming the state’s lieutenant governor, Tim served two terms as a Republican member of the U.S. House, representing Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District from 2011-2015.  Prior to that, Tim served as a White House aide to President George W. Bush.

William Fulbright ’25 served as a member of the U.S. House from Arkansas from 1943 to 1945, and as one of the most celebrated members in the history of the U.S. Senate from 1945 to 1974. Win Rockefeller ’69, served as Lt. Governor of Arkansas from 1996-2006.

The AP reports that Tim faces a potentially crowded Republican primary that could also include former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
