CHARLIE BUCHANAN ’14 ROWS FOR OXFORD IN THE 2019 OXFORD-CAMBRIDGE BOAT RACE

The Boat Race

Pembroke’s very own, Charlie Buchanan ’14 is rowing in the Varsity boat for Oxford against Cambridge in this Sunday’s (April 7) 165th edition of the world’s most historic and oldest boat race.

Charlie, rowing in seat 7, read physical and theoretical chemistry at Pembroke — which leaves us wondering where he has found the time to train at such a high level in this most vigorous of sports.

Charlie and our Blues will be competing with a well-stacked Cambridge crew — notably with 46 year-old, dual-Olympic gold medalist, James Cracknell pulling hard for the Light Blues (after a 12 year hiatus).

The OUBC Twitter feed this week had this to say about Charlie:

“Charlie is a smooth rower and brings a fun yet mature atmosphere. He keeps the boat honest and is always pushing for a higher standard every day. Fiendishly strong and light as a feather, he brings positivity and hunger.”

Watch LIVE on Sunday   The men’s and the women’s varsity boat races are being live-streamed in their entirety Sunday, April 7, on BBC iPlayer on your computer, tablet or mobile device, and also on YouTube.

The Women’s Varsity boat race starts at 9:13 am US EDT (2:13 pm London time); the Men’s Varsity boat race US EDT 10:10 am (3:10 pm London time).

Please tune in to cheer for Charlie, Pembroke, and Oxford!
