OCTOBER 6, 1931 – JANUARY 6, 2019

James Henry Bratton Jr.

Jim Bratton ‘52, longtime Pembroke College Foundation trustee and former Foundation treasurer, died on January 6, 2019, of heart failure in Atlanta, his home for many years.  Jim will be greatly missed by the entire Pembroke family.

Jim was a Southern gentleman in the very best sense: unfailingly considerate, courteous, honorable, friendly, generous, gallant, hard-working, and ethical. Jim grew up in Decherd, Tennessee. He attended The University of the South from which he graduated as Valedictorian of his class and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  He came to Pembroke as a Fulbright scholar and was a member of the Pembroke crew.  Jim graduated from Yale Law School after returning from England and was for many years a partner at the prominent Atlanta law firm, Smith, Gambrell & Russell.

The Pembroke College Foundation sends its most sincere condolences to Jim’s lovely widow, Alleen, and his children Susan, Jim, Jr., and Margaret and their families.
